The Kien Kleang Orphanage Center

The Kien Kleang center is an orphanage located in the outskirts of Phnom Penh. It was founded in 1979 and is located in the premises of a former monastery.
As most orphanages in Cambodia, Kien Klang is under the supervision of the Cambodian Ministry of Social Affairs/ Labor/Vocational Training and Youth Rehabilitation (MOSALVY).

There are 12 full-time employees taking care of the children.
Due to the lack of resources the funding by the government is very limited. For every child the orphanage receives a monthly contribution of around US$ 4,50 only.
Currently the orphanage is home to 114 boys and girls between 5 and 20 years.
Most of the children are real orphans. However some of them still have a mother or a father but have been given away due to social circumstances.

The children usually stay in the orphanage until they are able to get a job and support themselves.
Most of the children go to a local school, but education is very basic.
Flow Forwarding and its sister company Cosmos have actively supported this institution since June 2003. The companies have provided a variety of goods like clothes, stationery, toys, mosquito nets, food and medical supplies.
One of the orphans has undertaken a 12-month apprenticeship in our office and recently we have been able to organize a donation of several personal computers for educational purposes at the orphanage.
